- You don't necessarily have to have a degree in Welsh
I did Welsh up to GCSE level, and did my A Levels through the medium of Welsh (but not "Welsh" as a subject – History, Religious Education and English were what I did), and over the years realised that I liked translation. Now doing specific translation work is part of my job as Manager of Welsh Language Services within the NHS in Wales.
Translation qualifications can be gained while doing another career in the NHS – either at NVQ level, and/or through Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru. Translation skills are becoming increasingly valuable on a daily basis within the NHS, with the demand for translation as a result of the Welsh Language Measure increasing.
