What does your role involve?

Support students in their clinical practice placements, and support clinicians in their Practice Supervisor/ Assessor roles. We strive to ensure that we optimise clinical placement opportunities and are passionate about continuous improvement of experience, development and innovative models.

Who do you work with?

I work closely with clinicians who support students in practice, across many professions. I also work closely with students, local universities, HEIW, local health boards, and practice education facilitators from across Wales.

What is the best part of your job?

Is developing new and exciting placement opportunities for our students to continue developing and growing as people and professionals.

Why did you chose this career?

I have always been passionate about caring for people and education. My current role is the best mix of both worlds. My work contributes to improving patient care and allows me to teach and improve education for our students and clinicians.

Can you tell us about your career journey?

I qualified as an adult nurse in March 2012. My first job was as a staff nurse on a Trauma and Orthopaedic ward, a fast-paced area that I thoroughly enjoyed. I then spent several years in the emergency department as a staff nurse to expand my knowledge and skill development. This was an incredible experience, and one that I will never forget.

This led me to go and work as a clinical skills trainer at the University of South Wales, where I was hands on teaching with the student nurses there. This brought my passion for teaching to life, I loved that I could keep up to date with my clinical side of nursing along with teaching and developing our future generation of nurses.
