In a nursing home, nurses are a crucial part of the team as well as looking after the physical health of the individuals, they promote independence and well-being of the people they look after.

 What does a Nurse who works in a nursing home do

 A nurse stays in touch with Health Professionals (e.g., Dieticians, GP etc.).

 A nurse writes and reviews Care Plans for the residents, monitor the residents daily (dietary intake, bowel movement),

A nurse in a nursing home administers medications, change dressings, do referrals, coordinate the team as well as general duties around safeguarding and promoting health and independence.

A nurse in a nursing home does a lot of training, keeps up to date with the legislation, policies and procedures of the Health Board and the Care Home.

 What skills do I need to be a good Nurse?

 How do I become a Nurse?

Nursing degrees usually take three years to complete. There are a number of part-time degree courses for people employed as Healthcare Support Workers in the NHS.

Full-time Nursing Degree: The entry route to nursing in Wales is via a degree.

A bursary is available to help cover tuition fees. Aberystwyth, Bangor, USW, Cardiff, Glyndwr, and Swansea University all offer 3–4-year courses.
