Michelle Panniers - Senior Community Lecturer In Community And Childrens Nursing

Hello, my name is Michelle Panniers.

Michelle Panniers

Michelle Panniers

For over 30 years I have worked as a passionate Children’s Nurse, initially in the acute hospital environment, then having the privilege to care for children with complex health needs within the community setting.

More recently my career focused on well children, and working closely with children, young people, and their families, as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse, to promote their positive health and well-being which will help them become healthier within adulthood. This opportunity led me to my current role as a Senior Lecturer within Community and Children’s Nursing.

The different career options are vast; however, everyone strives to keep the child’s well-being at the centre of everything they do.

It's safe to say that a lot has changed over the years, but I have loved every job I have ever had. Children’s Nursing allows you to be an advocate for the child, to embrace family-centred care to work with them in partnership to help them achieve their goals.

Children’s Nurses work hard to nurse children well, or at the other end of the scale, to care for and provide a better quality of life or end of life for children with life-limiting conditions.

If I had to give a piece of advice to someone considering a career in Children’s Nursing, it would be… Never underestimate the difference you make.
