Why/How you got into this profession:

I wasn’t always sure what I wanted to be when I grew up. I went to Swansea University to complete my undergraduate in Criminology and Psychology as this course sparked my interest. During my final year, I realised that the complexities of the human mind and mental health had captured my interest and I went onto complete a master’s degree in clinical psychology and Mental Health.

My role:

My role as a Clinical Psychology Assistant Practitioner is incredibly rewarding. I have the privilege of witnessing the remarkable transformations people undergo with the right support. My work primarily involves providing support through the Primary Mental Health Support Service, where I assist individuals dealing with various mental health concerns. From addressing anxiety and depression to working with individuals facing eating disorders and trauma, every day brings a unique opportunity to learn and make a positive impact.

Why I think you’d love this role:

If you’re the kind of person who is empathetic, compassionate and intrigued by the human psyche, I wholeheartedly recommend a career in mental health. It’s a field where you can make a difference to someone’s life, offering hope and healing when they need it the most. It’s a fulfilling path where you will not only help others but also discover more about yourself. What makes it more exciting is the chance to delve deep into the intricacies of the human mind. Each day is a continuous learning journey that keeps you engaged and fascinated.

Future aspirations:

As for my own career aspirations, I aim to continue my education and complete a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and become a licensed clinical psychologist. This will allow me to take on a more significant role in therapy and provide specialised care to those in need. The field of mental health is ever-evolving, and I aim to contribute to the development of innovative therapeutic approaches.

Choosing a career is a significant decision, if you have a passion for understanding the human mind and a desire to support individuals through their mental health journeys, consider exploring the field of clinical psychology.
