Putting a contact lens onto someone’s eye and restoring vision is the best feeling in the world!
I work in practice seeing patients on an appointment basis. Examining eyes in preparation for contact lenses, supervising unqualified and/or non-clinical team members, examining patients with acute eye problems or foreign body removal and many more customer/patient facing tasks.
As part of my role as a contact lens optician, I work in a consulting room seeing patients for routine aftercare, problem-solving and examining patients prior to contact lens fitting. Contact lenses are essential for some prescriptions or eye diseases to provide a standard of vision acceptable for driving, working and/or completing daily tasks.
We see patients who present with eye pain, foreign bodies, and many acute eye problems, which avoids many patients having to go to A&E departments.
I meet very many interesting people, restoring vision and comfort, problem solving, teaching colleagues – learning something new every day.
If you enjoy meeting people and using a specialist skill to offer care and support this is the role for you.
The journey to get here took many years of hard work and determination but if you want to succeed you will. To find out about my journey into my role check out my other blog: my journey to becoming a contact lens optician.
