Why I Chose Learning Disability Nursing

Kloe Edwards

My name is Kloe Edwards and I am training to be a learning disability nurse. I chose to train to be a learning disability nurse because I feel passionately about advocating for further equality , opportunities, and quality of life for those with a learning disability who may struggle to advocate for themselves.

The best thing about my training is working alongside other passionate students, nurses and professionals and meeting a large scale of service users whom I may impact on and that most definitely impact on me.

Amy Bold

My name is Amy and I am training to be a learning disability nurse. I chose to train to be a learning disability nurse because there are still inequalities in healthcare.

The best thing about my training is experiencing a range of placements and meeting amazing individuals.

Donna Richards

My name is Donna Richards and I am training to be a Learning Disability Nurse. I chose to be a Learning Disability Nurse because I have always wanted to help people live their best, healthiest lives.

The best thing about my training is learning about the different areas available where I may be able to work once qualified and also having practical experiences in placement areas.

Marie Shakesheff

My name is Marie, and I am training to be a disability nurse. I chose to train as a disability nurse because there is not enough support for people with learning disabilities, they need someone to help them lead independent and healthy life’s and be their voices when needed.

The best thing about my training is meeting the patients and getting to know their characteristics such as likes, dislikes and more. This allows me to expand my skills and knowledge to become a better nurse.

Jade Savage

My name is Jade Savage and I am training to be a learning disability nurse. I chose to train to be a learning disability nurse because I want to work towards creating as many equitable opportunities for people with learning disabilities as possible.

The best thing about my training so far is all the supportive friends I’ve made that I can share experiences with, and the people I’ve met while on placement, who have really helped drive home why it is I want to become a learning disability nurse.

Adrian Gesty

My name is Adrian Gesty, and I'm training to be a registered Learning Disabilities Nurse because working with people with learning disabilities is my passion.

The best thing about training is expanding my knowledge, gaining experience in a variety of settings and fantastic support from the university during my study.

Rhiannon Richardson

My name is Rhiannon Richardson and I am training to be a learning disability nurse. I chose to train to become a learning disability nurse because I want to be able to work to ensure people with learning disabilities get the same opportunities as everyone else in society.

The best thing about the training is meeting so many inspirational people through placements and lectures, I also really enjoy being able to promote learning disability nursing through the university’s nursing society.

Georgia Davenport

My name is Georgia Davenport and I am currently training to be a Learning Disability Registered Nurse. I chose to pursue this profession as working with individuals who have a learning disability is something I am passionate about – it’s close to home for me. Every person has the right to ensure their lives can be lead as independently and as healthy as possible and I am passionate to advocate and be part of those individuals’ journeys.

The best thing about my training is the variety of placements that is offered to me. After my first year I have had a wide range of placements and I am given opportunities to keep developing my knowledge and experience to become the best nurse I possibly can be.
