Introduction To Antenatal

The antenatal period refers to the time from conception to childbirth. During this time women, birthing people and their families will receive care from a midwife or sometimes a doctor who specialises in pregnancy and childbirth (an obstetrician). This care is often called pregnancy or maternity care. Midwives or doctors providing maternity care will:

• Assess the health of women, birthing people, and their babies
• Offer antenatal screening tests to check their health and the health of their baby
• Provide health related information and advice
• Discuss options and choices for maternity care, labour, and childbirth

On this floor we will introduce to a midwife and an obstetrician who will tell you a little bit more about their role.
